The "real" reason we went to the States this past weekend was....
"Sweet Blarney"
I know.....so beautiful right?!
Blarney is a 9 week old, 18lb (wow!), purebred Irish Setter!
We've known we were getting him since October and this past weekend
was the final, exciting trip to just outside of Clarion, Pennsylvania to pick him up.
We did stay the first night of our weekend in Williamsville, New York and shopped a bit, but the Saturday when we made our way to Clarion was the most delightful.
We found a couple little antique stores and got lost in them....more on that tomorrow!

My husband has always wanted an Irish Setter and do you know there was only one person in Canada breeding them that had any puppies right now?
She was in Alberta....way too far from home.

We named him Blarney because that's what my husband's family Irish Setter was
named sooo many years ago when he was just a wee boy.
We took him visiting Dan's mom, Inez, yesterday and she cried with joy when she saw him and called him her new grandson....couldn't take her eyes off him!
It was wonderful to brighten her day!  She'll be seeing alot of Blarney.
There is a most horrid carpet of dog fur on my floors right now!
Time for central sweep installation I do believe....

The Breeder, Barbara Lockwood, lives in New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and her business is called "Motley Acres Farm".  She breeds Registered AKC Irish Setters and Golden Retrievers and has the nicest facility I've seen for a dog breeder.
She & her husband are doing the finishing on a beautiful outbuilding that has heated cement floors throughout for the dogs.  There are separate kennels within the building that each have their own doggie doors leading out to separate runs.
It was extremely clean!  And, she kept apologizing that it wasn't cleaner....unbelievable!
We've bred chocolate labs in years gone by and we know how difficult it is to keep on top of cleaning up after puppies...it was immaculate...trust me!
I should also mention that Barbara was very sweet to meet in person....and we realized she was going to be that way when even prior to Brooke having her litter that Blarney's from, Barbara was sending us photos via e-mail every few days and keeping us updated on Brooke's health and progress and after the pups were born, she sent us photos of Blarney on a regular basis with little blurbs about him.  We were most appreciative!
We will definitely go back to her if we're looking for another pup!

Right now he's a light brownish-red colour, but his fur will turn to the deep
mahogany red as he grows up!
We also had no problems at all getting back over the border...the customs officers all fell in love with Blarney...what a charmer!
Have you hugged your pup today?

OH MY GOODNESS... He is Gorgeous! Welcome home, Blarney! Congratulations on this amazingly adorable new addition to your family, Wendy. I'm in love with him already and with my Irish roots, I'm especially fond of his name. I think it means that he'd better be prepared for many, MANY kisses.
Wishing you years and years of happiness, cuddles and licks with your baby boy! xo

I loved reading your comments about your puppy. We are Irish setter lovers. We have ordered a puppy from Barbara . A male that we will pick up in June. This will be our 4th Irish setter and we are so excited. I love hearing from Barbara and love seeing pictures of the new born puppies.
