I'm in love with my Garden Gate!
After Dan & I finished hanging it, we crossed the road and sat
on the bench facing our house to admire it!
Our old garden gate, was broken - missing a fence board and the latch was rotted out.
I was telling Dan that I wished we had an old door we could use as a gate.
That's when he went down into our dungeon and came up with this!
One of the original doors of the house from the 1800's.
I've got to tell you, Dan did the work on it....I just designed it!
Phew...that was hard work!
I remembered we had this old stove pipe flange I had purchased at an
antique shop a few years ago.  It was always getting put somewhere or other
without any real home to speak of.
We did nothing to this...the rust appealed to me!
I did help clean the door up with some TSP and scrubbing.
Then it was ready for paint!
Dan cut a hole for the flange to fit into as a window.
He saved all the old handle hardware and painted all of it brown.
Bought some new hinges and painted them as well.
We added our house numbers to the top and some flowers beneath the window
in a window box I bought for $1.99 at Value Village last year!
Our curb appeal has risen substantially!
I like that it has the feel of a Secret Garden...makes you want to walk up to it
and peek inside the wee window, doesn't it?
Coming in for a Garden Party?
I'll wait here....

Tammi, I told Dan we should go into business making doors like this! It's not the kind of thing you find at your local hardware store is it?! Thanks for your sweet comment. xo

6/8/2012 03:01:49 pm

6/8/2012 09:26:59 pm

Thanks for having the link party Christina! And the nice comment too! xo

6/9/2012 01:40:17 am

Gorgeous gate! Wish I could find something that great in our dungeon! :)

6/9/2012 08:37:04 pm

I know! Isn't it great? There's another door down there, but the furnace vent runs across the top of it, so hubby can't get it out unless he pulls down the vent. We'll see! hahaha!

6/9/2012 03:58:09 am

The door works perfectly and looks fantastic! Excellent job and huge improvement! Larry

6/9/2012 08:38:18 pm

Thanks so much Larry for visiting...love the flowers on your blog...absolutely gorgeous photography! xo

6/9/2012 04:52:50 am

I absolutely adore your garden gate - I have been dreaming of one very similar for our side gate! You both did a fabulous job!

6/9/2012 08:39:35 pm

It's funny how you get an idea in your head and you're not happy until you see it all come together. In my case...cracking the whip on hubby to hurry up and finish! Haha.

6/9/2012 08:45:23 am

Love it and I am on my way over. The first stop I'll be making is your dungeon!

6/9/2012 08:41:08 pm

It's not very nice down there...I mean our house was built in the early 1800's....very small basement under the original part of the house...and it really is a dungeon....ew. I'll be at your party later!

6/10/2012 04:20:34 am

I can relate to dungeons, we have one ourselves, when hubs is gone I send Bo down there, if he doesn't bark, I know it's safe to enter!

6/9/2012 09:01:23 am

Wow, this is fantastic! I would go and sit across the street to gaze at it too! I so love that it is a door from your house from so long ago as well as the super cool window. What a great idea! Bravo on this really beautiful project. Found your post at Too Much Time.

6/9/2012 08:42:20 pm

I think this was soooo smart and soooo adorable! I love that you left the rusty look too!
Love it!

6/9/2012 08:44:49 pm

I like the rusty part too...I did look at it and think...hmmm...should I clean that up? NAH!! I might have to later if it gets more rusty, but for now...it's all good. Thanks for the sweet comment... xo

6/9/2012 10:48:23 am

Wow... you knocked this one out of the ballpark! You'd never know that door didn't belong there from the getgo. Love this!

the gate is awesome, it's almost exactly what i'm envisioning for my gate makeover. looking for something like the antique stove flange as a "peep" hole, preferably made from copper since i live right next to the ocean and rust factor is high! thanks for sharing, it's beautiful
